O'Brien keen on Roderic

Roderic O'Connor may be a big price for Saturday's mouthwatering Dewhurst Stakes, but Aidan O'Brien's colt isn't there just to make up the numbers.

The Curragh maiden winner is well behind the big three Frankel, Dream Ahead and Saamidd in the betting, but the Ballydoyle handler admits this race has always been his target.

"He ran first time at Leopardstown and ran a nice race to finish third and he then won very nicely in a maiden at the Curragh," O'Brien told At The Races.

"He's by Galileo and we always liked him. He's always been highly rated, even as a yearling.

"Other winners have come out of the race he won at the Curragh and obviously this is a very competitive Dewhurst - the Dewhurst always is.

"The best two-year-olds in Europe normally turn up for the race and that's why it's very prestigious for whichever horse than wins it.

"All they can do is win their race before they go into a big one and I suppose everyone is going to have learned a lot after it.

"This was always going to be his target and everything has gone the right way."
