Ohmali made the breakthrough in the first division of the Boyle Sports Handicap at Gowran when finishing strongly under Seamie Heffernan.

The Natalia Lupini-trained gelding had been knocking on the door in handicap company recently and went to post 7/2 favourite in today’s mile event.

He finished off best to get on top close home and beat Slaney Swagger and Manhattan Dandy by half-a-length and a length, after a good three-way battle inside the final furlong.

Heffernan said:- “Craig and Natalia’s horses having been running a bit better in the last couple of weeks than what they were, for some reason or other.

“He ran well in Galway and ran well in Fairyhouse. He’s uncomplicated and he’s probably matured.

“I won well at the line and he will stay further.

“They are handicappers but when they start improving and start enjoying it they can creep their way up through the ratings. So hopefully he keeps creeping up.”
