Peace scores on first start for Cumani

Quest For Peace made a winning debut for Luca Cumani in the Grosvenor Casinos Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot.

Successful in his last two races for Aidan O'Brien, he was settled off a muddling early pace set by Arctic Cosmos, last year's Ladbrokes St Leger winner who was making a belated seasonal reappearace.

The hard-pulling Yaseer took the leader on at the head of affairs from five furlongs out but turning for home Arctic Cosmos was back in front.

However the 3-1 winner was travelling noticeably better under Kieren Fallon and having gone to the front over a furlong out, he went on to beat the 9-4 favourite by two lengths.

Fallon, continuing in great form in his pursuit of Paul Hanagan in the jockeys' championship race, said: "He's done some very good work at home, he's been working out of his boots.

"It was a messy race, they didn't go very quick in front but it picked up from five out which helped him.

"He's got a big future, he's a lovely, sensible horse with a great nature and hopefully he will go the right way."

Cumani said: "I'm very, very grateful to Terry Henderson and his partners for buying horse, he's a great addition to the yard. We got him going recently and he's been looking good. He'll probably have one more run this year and then we'll leave it for next year with him.

"He was in very good condition when he came and I'm pleased to have him."

Of Fallon, Cumani added: "We are trying our hardest to see if we can make the old boy a champion again!"
