Racegoer injured by loose horse A racegoer was taken to nearby Naas Hospital after being struck by a loose horse in the betting ring during the running of the second race at Punchestown this evening, the Conyngham Cup Handicap Chase. The drama occurred after Kaithlin's Fancy unseated her rider at the first in the amateurs' event, and the nine-year-old grey mare proceeded to jump a gate between the final two fences into the enclosure. She proceeded to run loose in front of the stands and into the betting ring where she collided with the racegoer in the vicinity of the winning post. Thankfully the individual involved was reported to have regained consciousness before being taken away by ambulance. Turf Club doctor Walter Halley stressed the vital role and quick action taken by the Order Of Malta in attending to the stricken racegoer.
