The Flat season will be coming to an end in the next few weeks but we still have some excellent action to look forward to, including several Group 1s.

Newmarket hosts the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile on Friday and it’s shaping up to be an absolute cracker.

A field of 11 has been declared so we’re going to assess the chances of each of them.

1. Amora Queen (T: Charlie Johnston J: James Doyle)

This daughter of Waldgeist is unbeaten in two starts but she will have to improve significantly in order to feature. Scraping home in an average race at Chelmsford last time, it’s hard to make a strong case for her at this level.

2. Composing (T: Aidan O’Brien J: Wayne Lordan)

At her very best, the Ballydoyle second-string would have a decent chance. She comfortably won the Debutante Stakes at the Curragh in August but probably has a bit to prove on the evidence of her last couple of starts.

3. Dance To The Music (T: Charlie Appleby J: William Buick)

She kept on well to win the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes on the July Course back in August. Charlie Appleby’s filly had a troublesome journey at Woodbine last month and is probably better than her finishing position suggests.

4. Evolutionist (T: Karl Burke J: Clifford Lee)

Karl Burke is a very effective trainer of juveniles and is often worth bearing in mind. Evolutionist was last seen finishing third behind Composing at the Curragh and it’s hard to see her reversing the form.

5. Legacy Link (T: John & Thady Gosden J: Colin Keane)

She actually finished behind Evolutionist on debut but left that run well behind her when winning impressively at Haydock after that. This is a big step up but she represents powerful connections and shouldn’t be dismissed with that in mind.

6. Moments Of Joy (T: Aidan O’Brien J: Tom Marquand)

This Ballydoyle filly showed a good attitude to get off the mark at the first time of asking at Leopardstown and backed that up with a good run against the boys when third at Royal Ascot. We haven’t seen the best of her yet and she has a good each-way chance.

7. Moon Target (T: Sir Mark Prescott J: Luke Morris)

Sir Mark Prescott’s filly was second behind Precise in a Goodwood Group 3 earlier on in the season but was comfortably beaten in two Group 2s since. She is probably best watched with that in mind, although she’s not completely out of it.

8. Precise (T: Aidan O’Brien J: Christophe Soumillon)

Precise has improved with every run so far and she did all her best work late on when winning the Moyglare over 7f last time out. The step up to a mile should suit and back-to-back Group 1 victories could be on the cards.

9. Queen Of Hawaii (T: Joseph O’Brien J: Dylan Browne McMonagle)

This improving filly was too good for Moments Of Joy at the Curragh last time out and produced a very smart display to win well. Further progress seems likely and she’s entitled to go close if that is the case.

10. Sugar Island (T: Aidan O’Brien J: Sean Levey)

It was a much better effort when third in the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster last time out but you would imagine she’ll need to improve again to compete at this level. Sugar Island has an impeccable pedigree and is bred to be a Group 1 winner.

11. Venetian Lace (T: Charlie Johnston J: Jason Hart)

Venetian Lace is closely matched with both Dance To The Music and Moments Of Joy on her best form but she faded in the closing stages on her first attempt over a mile last time out. Perhaps a return to 7f will allow her to flourish.

2.571m. 10 Declared.
