Sam lands gamble in bumper Shine On Sam was backed from fancy prices in the bumper at Wexford and that confidence proved well founded as he dipped at the right time to edge a terrific duel with Hartford. The Mark Quigley-trained newcomer was 33/1 this morning and was supported into 11/2 before eventually going off an 8/1 shot. Hartford took a narrow lead running down the hill in the two-mile-contest but was joined by the eventual winner inside the final furlong. The Berkshire gelding found plenty for Adam Ryan and just edged the verdict, from the 4/7 favourite, by a short-head at the line. Ryan said afterwards:- "I know this meeting was rescheduled but I think I won both bumpers at this meeting last year and this year. “It's been a very lucky place for me. I'm delighted to get the winner here this evening. “I'm after riding a couple of winners for Mark Quigley in bumpers. If he has the horse, he's well able to produce them. It's just nice to get my leg over them." (Quotes by John O’Riordan)
