Paul Nolan is eager to get Sandor Clegane started over fences in a beginners' chase at Fairyhouse tomorrow despite the extended two-mile trip being short of his best.

The six-year-old gelding is being aimed at the Grade 2 Liam & Valerie Brennan Florida Pearl Novice Steeplechase at Punchestown on 25th November, so Nolan is understandably keen to get his charge a run over the bigger obstacles beforehand.

He said: "We were entered everywhere, but I just want to get a run into him and get him out over the big ones (fences). Two miles is way too short for him but our options are limited as his aim is the Florida Pearl.

"We don't want to get involved in a slog over 2m6f or 2m7f yet - which is his trip - and I just want to get him home having jumped well. We want a clear round and for him to come home safe."

Sandor Clegane was last seen winning the valuable Connolly‘s RED MILLS EBF Auction Hurdle Final at Punchestown in April.

Prior to that, he was placed in Grade 1 staying contests at Leopardstown during the Dublin Racing Festival and at the Cheltenham Festival.
