Kevin Sexton came in for a winning spare ride on Holy Joe in the Talbot Hotel Clonmel (C & G) Maiden Hurdle over two miles.

Intended rider James Smith was stood down after a fall in the previous race and Sexton delivered the 25/1 chance from off the pace to head long-standing maiden in The Trenches at the second-last.

A lightly-raced six-year-old by Elusive Pimpernel, the Gordon Elliott-trained winner went away to defeat that rival by three and a-quarter lengths in the colours of his breeder John Hyland's Oghill House Stud.

Sexton commented "It was unfortunate for James (Smith) as he got a nasty enough fall earlier, although thankfully he was okay afterwards. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time.

"He was running well until unseating the last day (at Downpatrick) and he jumped brilliantly today. He was a bit fiery beforehand and is hard work, but during the race he was very easy.

"I think he will improve again, and the further he goes the better he'll be. He'll also jump a fence in time."

Sexton had earlier been suspended for two days having completed the course on disqualified Open Approach which had run out at the second flight of hurdles, in the opener.
