Shark Hanlon has revealed Hewick may be better than he was two years ago.

Speaking exclusively to stable partner, BOYLE Sports, the trainer issued a positive update on his pint sized 10-year-old ahead of the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday. Hewick made his first appearance this season over hurdles at Thurles earlier this month, easily winning.

BOYLE Sports now rate Hewick as the 10/3 second favourite for the Charlie Hall Chase behind Dan Skelton's Protektorat who is 2/1.

Hewick In 'Terrific Nick'

"We were delighted with Hewick at Thurles, it was great to get his head in front under Paddy, and it's set him up perfectly for the Charlie Hall this weekend," Hanlon explained.

"We're confident he’ll do us proud, even with Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton holding strong hands. He's come into this season in terrific nick."

Hanlon's son Paddy was on board at Thurles but it will be Gavin Sheehan aboard on Saturday at Wetherby.

Future Plans

Hanlon also expanded on what may come next for Hewick after the weekend.

He said: "If all goes well at Wetherby, we're looking at a return to Kempton on Boxing Day.

“There's no reason not to think he’s as good, if not even better than two years ago."
