Trainer Colin Bowe’s Mayo Shirocco (11/1) was the easy winner of Wexford’s Curracloe Beach Maiden Hurdle today, although returned lame following her breakthrough first racecourse success.

Owned by Alberta Capital Ltd, the six-year-old mare carries county Mayo’s colours and had landed a point-to-point in 2024. Today, Mayo Shirocco made all the running and having gone clear of her rivals rounding the final bend, scored easily from Benner Wenner .

Regarding the lightly-raced winner, jockey Doyle reported “it was a good performance after coming back from a break but obviously she pulled up a bit lame. Hopefully she might have just struck into herself and hopefully will be fine in a few days.

“Her previous runs were obviously disappointing but I think they found reasons for that and a bit of proper good ground, going up in trip with a change of tactics helped, as she enjoyed herself. There will be a bit of sport in her if she is ok.”
