Sizing Gold is set to drop back in trip after finding three miles beyond him at Naas yesterday.

The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding had been impressive on his chase debut at Navan last month over two-and-a-half miles.

Stepping up to three-miles for the first time he found Foxrock too strong in the Woodlands Park Novice Chase and tired in the closing stages to just hold the runner-up spot.

The Alan Potts-owned gelding remains on course for Cheltenham, however, with the JLT Novice Chase the target.

“He just didn't quite get home. That was always the fear and really I did some job finding the most testing three miles in the country!" said de Bromhead today.

“It was Naas, heavy ground and a flat out gallop. He'll drop back to two-and-a-half now.

“He didn't take that much racing last year and we may go straight for the JLT Novice Chase at Cheltenham.”
