Sovereign Cry was just denied here last month but the photo-finish went his way on this occasion when getting up in the final stride of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race at Dundalk.

The well-backed 7/4 favourite Final Melody set a strong pace at the head of affairs and still had all her rivals in trouble over a furlong out.

However, Sovereign Cry responded to Shane Foley’s urgings inside the final furlong and the 2/1 chance just hit the front on the line to score by a short-head. Fox In Flight was a further length and three-quarters back in third.

Winning trainer Danny Murphy said, “From a furlong and a-half down, I said we would get there. I did think that filly (Final Melody) was rocking and rolling.

"Needed every yard of it and probably needs six or seven (furlongs).

"The horse that beat him (Gavoo, here last month), I'd say is probably a Listed horse.

"I gave good money for him; I gave 60 grand for him at the breeze-up sale.

"I could possibly put him away because he is still weak. He will be a nice horse.

"I love the sire, Ten Sovereigns. I had Crystal Luna and she won twice for us up here."
