Sporting proves Hero in crediting Casey with second career win Sporting Hero fought off a whole host of challengers inside the last furlong to run out a gallant winner of the opening Racing TV Club Day Handicap at Dundalk. Trained by Denis Hogan, the five-year-old has proven a real star on the all-weather this winter, winning three times prior to tonight. In doing so, he has helped propel the fledging careers of a trio of promising young apprentice riders. Nicola Burns has twice been successful on the gelding, while Dylan O'Connor registered his first success on the son of Bobby's Kitchen last week. Making a quick reappearance here under Alan Casey, Sporting Hero was always to the fore before edging ahead early in the straight. Keeping on strongly inside the final furlong, he was crediting his young jockey with just the second win of his career to date. Alan Casey said: "He stayed on well and he was travelling the whole way. "Wayne (Lordan on Never Shout Never) was favourite and I was happy with my position. "I'm in with Denis and am finishing school this year. I'd be up to Denis on weekends and any holidays. "I'm going to try and do this and see how it goes." Additional reporting by Michael Graham.
