Storm Boelo sees Snowden blown off course with Newbury prep for Wendigo Jamie Snowden admitted his frustration after seeing meticulous Coral Gold Cup planning for Wendigo blown away after Storm Boelo forced the abandonment of Aintree’s Old Roan Chase card. The Lambourn handler had been hoping to follow the same path from Liverpool to Newbury as he did with Datsalrightgino in 2023. But after high winds forced Aintree to call their meeting off early on Sunday morning, Snowden is left searching for a race to prep the gelding for the November 28 showpiece. “It is a real shame and it is a real shame that they can’t put it on tomorrow to be honest,” said Snowden. “It would happen in Ireland wouldn’t it? I hear they are talking about November 7, but that is no good for us really as it is too close to the Coral Gold Cup. “We are in at Wetherby this weekend (in the BetBoost At Bet365 Crossley Handicap Chase on Friday), but I am slightly worried about what the ground is going to be like up there, and then there is the Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase at Carlisle on Sunday so that’s a possible. “They are the two obvious ones, but wherever we go it has to be this week really.” Wendigo currently jointly heads the market at 8-1 for the Newbury race and Snowden feels the second season chaser has the right profile after a solid first season over fences last campaign. “He had a productive season novice chasing last year winning a Grade Two which was lovely and he was placed in Grade One company. Obviously he looks tailormade really for the Coral Gold Cup.”
