Veteran Vic on course for National Trainer Dermot McLoughlin would not be concerned about letting Vics Canvas have a second crack at the Randox Health Grand National without a prep run. The son of Old Vic ran a fantastic race in the Aintree spectacular last April when finishing third at odds of 100-1, but has not been seen in competitive action since. Now very much in the twilight of his career at the age of 14, Vics Canvas is on the road to recovery having suffered an injury earlier in the campaign and McLoughlin is confident he will have his stable star at concert pitch for his return to Merseyside. "He ran a cracker last year and he's in good form," the trainer told At The Races. "He had a little setback before Christmas. He cracked a little bone in his fetlock joint and had his leg up for a while, but it was nothing major. "He's back on the go again now and we're getting a bit short of time, but it's not a big deal if we don't run him again before the National, he's a very clean-winded horse for his age. "He's very straightforward and has the enthusiasm to keep going."
