Navy Waves sprang a 20/1 shock in the first division of the Galway Handicap Hurdle at Ballybrit today.

Ryan Treacy settled behind the leaders on the Sea Moon mare before asking her for an effort over the second last.

The seven-year-old pressed Toor Moon over the final flight and got on top on the run-in to secure a two-and-a-quarter length success. Southgate Avenue stayed on to finish second.

Cashin, recording her first winner since March 2023, said afterwards:-

“She’ll travelled well and Ryan was good and confident on her.

“She had good form last season and she got hurt in Tipperary, and had to have a little break. We’re very pleased, she’s sweet.

“We just have a handful in training.”
