Ousted from favouritism by Thomas Chippendale the Joseph O'Brien-trained Zarak Pasha (6/4) was first where it mattered as he landed the Velo 'Official Coffee At The Curragh' Irish EBF Maiden over one mile, one furlong.

Having his third start, Simon Munir and Isaac Souede's colt sat second to the market leader and took that one's measure over a furlong out before holding his promising stablemate Dancinginthecity #160;by half a length.

“He’s an improving horse," said rider Dylan Browne McMonagle.

"He was very solid the last day in Galway, the winner just quickened off the bend and caught him a bit flat-footed.

“Today, going up a furlong and the big track suited him well. He was drawn wide but I got a nice position and I was happy to follow Wayne (Lordan). His horse was fairly raw in front and I was happy to use him as a target.

“When I sat into my fella down at the furlong-and-a-half I quickened well. When I got to the front then, he was having a little look.

“He’s a nice horse and he’s improving.

“The penny dropped with him in the last furlong (in Galway) and he really hit the line well. He did quicken well so I was confident today I’d have a good kick and I didn’t want to be in a hurry. He quickened up and put it to bed.

“He’ll have no problem stepping up (in trip) again in time, but he’s after sharpening up plenty with racing and he’s not slow. He’s got a little bit of class, I think.”
