Another for Kerry as Lucky comes out on top On his seasonal reappearance Lucky William got off the mark over fences in the Allman Contracts Limited Beginners Chase for the Co Kerry father & son team of trainer Tom Cooper and jockey Bryan. The 7yo son of All My Dreams, who was placed in a Grade 2 hurdle last season, had been disappointing on his four starts over fences to date. He fell at the second last at Tipperary on his first start over chases with the race at his mercy while he was second at Naas and Navan on his next two starts. On his last start over fences he was brought down when beaten in the Grade 1, Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse in December. Having raced on the pace throughout, the winning 8/11 favourite, hit the front again before the second last. He was then joined by Forjoetheplumber (11/2) and was travelling best, when that fellow unseated his rider Paddy Mangan at the last. Lucky William went on to record an easy nine length win at the line from 11/1 shot Hans Crescent back in second while Rock The Bock at 14/1 completed the placings a further twenty three lengths back in third. Winning trainer Tom Cooper said afterwards: "He deserved that. He has loads of class. "Hopefully now he can win a few nice novice chases during the winter. He just about got away with the ground. "He would have definitely been placed in the Drinmore only for being brought down. He had an unlucky season." The win was even more special for winning rider Bryan Cooper, as it was his first since losing his claim.
