Apprentice jockey Reese Holohan registered his first double today and partnered his initial winner for his employer trainer Mark Fahey, steering frustrating Daonethatgotaway (9/2) to win Dundalk’s New Saddle Bar Handicap.

Earlier successful on the Denis Hogan-trained The Liffey Holohan produced Daonethatgotaway from mid-division to eventually lead inside the final furlong, scoring by a neck from Benavente .

Fahey said “I’m delighted Reese was able to ride a (first) winner for me, as he is apprenticed to me but has ridden winners for plenty others. That's his first double and he gave that horse a great ride, and knows him inside out.

"The owners (Up The Blues Syndicate) are a great bunch of lads and they love it. We have been unlucky with him, though, so the horse deserves it more than anything else. We were finishing second and third, and second and third, and had a few hard luck stories.

“Every time he was finishing placed, he was getting raised a pound or two so we said we would try something different and tried him over a mile and a-quarter the last day. He is versatile, but that is his grade.

“He has won on soft ground as well, so we don't know where we are going to go. As long as he stays running like that, we'll stay going. As long as he stays enjoying it, we will stay going. If he tells us that he has enough, we will pull the plug and give him a break and freshen him up and come again."
