Leaving Cert student Nicola Burns today reflected on a whirlwind recent few months as the apprentice jockey registered a 10th career success in the Dundalk Winter Series Championships Handicap today, on the Paul Flynn-trained Scott Lang (5/2).

Burns tracked leader Inchiquin Maiden (6/4f) for most of the way before improving Scott Lang to lead a furlong out, scoring by a half-length from that front-runner.

Afterwards jockey Burns, 16, said "Dundalk has been amazing to me, I'm enjoying it and hopefully we can keep going and keep the ball rolling. I’m doing the Leaving Cert this year so hope to get it out of the way before going full-time.

"Dad (Robbie) is a big help to me, he advises on everything and I definitely learn a lot from him. I loved racing from a very early age, so it is great to get to be getting these opportunities."

Regarding Scott Lang, she added “he ran well the last day for me, he was second.

"I was sitting second and just let him relax a bit, and he did. Then going down the back straight, I knew he was a stayer so I put a bit of pressure on. He kicked on coming home and stayed on well up the straight.

"All Paul's horses are in great form and I'd like to thank him for giving me the spin.”
