English trainer Owen Burrows is hoping for an ease in ground conditions at Leopardstown, ahead of Anmaat’s possible run in the Irish Champion Stakes on September 13.

Winner of nine races including two Group 1s, the seven-year-old son of Awtaad filled the runner-up spot in both the Curragh’s Tattersalls Gold Cup and Royal Ascot’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes in two appearances this year.

While runner-up to Ombudsman on good-to-firm ground in that Ascot race, the gelding has shown a preference for an easy surface, with Burrows reporting “we’ll look to Ireland and if the ground is suitable, he could run.

“He goes on fast ground and while he came out of Ascot very well and we were considering the Eclipse, obviously that (going) came up very fast so I didn’t want to run him in that. Hopefully it will be soft ground (at Leopardstown), which is what he loves and is more his bag.

“Alfaila ran in it (finishing fifth) a couple of years ago when it was also quick ground, so we’ll just have to see.”

Anmaat's regular rider Jim Crowley adds "he has run two smashing races this year and ran a huge race at Royal Asot where the ground was possibly quick enough for him. He owes us nothing, has won two Group 1s, so hopefully we can squeeze another one out of him.

"He has never run at Leopardstown but tactically he is very easy to ride and a strong pace around there should suit him. It'll be interesting."

With the likely withdrawal of antepost favourite Ombudsman, Anmaat is currently fourth-choice with bookmakers, as a 7/1 chance.
