Canford in search of Lockinge glory

Canford Cliffs reappears in the featured JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury today, where the star miler will take on his stablemate Dick Turpin.

This is an eagerly-awaited return to action for Canford Cliffs who has been off the track since beating Rip Van Winkle at Goodwood in early August, having earlier won the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace Stakes.

However it is worth remembering that Canford Cliffs wasn't quite at his best in his first two starts last season, finishing behind Dick Turpin in both the Greenham and 2000 Guineas.

His stablemate reopposes here and the head-to-head score between the two is 2-1 in Dick Turpin's favour. He also has the benefit of a recent run, winning at Sandown a couple of weeks ago.
