Cartier Racing Awards report John Gosden and James Doyle came in for plenty of praise after Kingman was crowned Horse of the Year at the prestigious Cartier Racing Awards on Tuesday evening. Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Khalid Abdullah, was on hand to collect the prize which recognised Kingman's excellent season in winning four Group One events over a mile. Kingman was also named the leading Three-Year-Old colt ahead of dual Derby winner Australia, The Grey Gatsby and Charm Spirit, with Grimthorpe recognising the efforts of Gosden and Doyle in a memorable campaign. He said: "A big thank you to John and all his team at Clarehaven, they've really performed miracles with this horse and brought him absolutely to his peak, and wonderfully ridden by James Doyle, who has ridden brilliantly for us all year and we wish him the best coming up with Godolphin, it will be fantastic for him." Taghrooda, bred and owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, from the Gosden stable and ridden by Paul Hanagan, was named the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly for 2014 after she landed the Investec Oaks at Epsom on only her third start and then became the first filly since Pawneese in 1976 to follow up by beating her elders in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. She was retired following her third-placed effort in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and is now due to visit Kingman at stud. The owner's racing manager Angus Gold said: " Full credit to Sheikh Hamdan and big John for taking that brave route, she was blessed with a fantastic temperament and in all the time I've been around, the only one we've had around of comparable quality was Salsabil, which shows how hard it is to get these really good ones. "She's off for a happy date with that fantastic horse Kingman, so I'm afraid the offspring will be inbred two by two to John Gosden but I hope he's around long enough to train them!" The Edward Lynam-trained Sole Power just got the nod over his stable companion Slade Power in the Cartier Sprinter division thanks to his victories in the King's Stand Stakes and Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes The pair are both owned by Sabena Power, who is hoping Slade Power will make a speedy recovery after sustaining an injury when having his final start in the Darley Classic at Flemington last week. She said: "I'm so proud and thrilled because he's (Sole Power) been a wonderful horse for us. And I must just mention Slade Power, he's currently laid up in Australia but he'll be fine I hope. "I must thank our trainer Eddie Lynam, we call him the Wizard of Oz, because he's brought us somewhere over the rainbow, as well as Richard Hughes and Wayne Lordan."
