Chemdawg put in a fine front-running performance to take Division 2 of the William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series Handicap Hurdle over two miles three furlongs in Kilbeggan.

She raced intermittently clear for Phillip Enright and looked to be in control after two out. Finnicky Filly came out of the pack as a danger on the approach to the home straight, but once Chemdawg cleared the last she was gone and came in by six lengths at 5/1 backed in from 8/1.

Finnicky Filly (17/2) picked up a runner-up prize and was three-parts of a length in front of a keeping-on Bowgate Street at 11/1.

Oliver McKiernan said: “We ran her the last day in Limerick and she was out in front most of the way. She probably went quicker than she went today.

“He just gave her a few breathers today and it helped to get her home. She’s comfortable leaping out in front.

“She’s not consistent, though - she ran a few times and was pulled up, so we’re happy to get that one.

“She was starting to tire a bit coming to the line, but it worked out well for her.

“We’ll maybe look for a mares' race in that category.

“She wants cut in the ground and there is a good cut in the ground here this evening.”
