Paul Deegan is looking forward to stepping Avenue Gabriel up in distance following her fine effort in the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh.

Making her first appearance since finishing an encouraging third on her seasonal debut at Leopardstown at the end of March, the three-year-old was beaten a little under eight lengths into fourth in Sunday's Classic.

Deegan said: "We're very happy with her. She ran a screamer. We're delighted and proud and although she handled it better than most, the ground was a bit too soft for her."

The trainer continued: " They went a proper gallop and she was on the sharp end the whole way.

"We think she'll benefit from going another furlong or two, but that is obviously the case for one or two others, including the winner (Marvellous), as well.

"There are some nice races for her and now she's finished fourth in a Group One, that will be on her page. It's a shame she got beaten half a length for third, as that would have been massive for her.

"The plan was to go for the Pretty Polly Stakes and then the Irish Oaks, but she's also in the Prix de Diane and all those options are open for her."
