Trained locally by Eamonn Delany and his son Alan, Dream Legend sprang a 40/1 surprise in the Mac Tar Handicap.

Beating just one rival home in his first five starts, the Twilight Son chestnut then finished an encouraging sixth at Dundalk when beaten by just over two-and-a-half lengths.

Again failing to make an impact when last seen at the all-weather venue, he returned to the turf this evening and tracked the leaders under Leigh Roche.

Pushed along and getting a dream run through on the inner with two-furlongs to go, the 48-rated outsider soon improved into a narrow lead and kept on well for pressure in the closing stages, scoring by a length-and-a-quarter.

The well-backed Mick Mulvany-trained Imnotleavinyou (17/2 from 50s early) came from off the pace to finish second, with another Mulvany representative, Balance Of Trade (10/3f from 8s early), another four-and-a-half lengths back in third.

"Ideally trying to get seven (furlongs), but he was down at the bottom of the handicap and was finding it hard to get races," Alan Delany reflected.

"We wanted to come here for this.

"He just missed the break the last day in Dundalk, but was still only beaten four or five lengths. He had a good run at the back end in Dundalk too, beaten just over two-and-a-half (lengths in sixth) and he couldn't get out that day.

"I think there is a bit more to come - he's very green and when he hit the front he didn't know what to do, and over the road and all that.

"It was great to get locally. I didn't think he should have been 40/1.

"He might come back here in July."

STEWARDS REPORTS

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Nephin Mountain trained by Michael Mulvany, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Raceday Stewards reviewed an incident crossing the road in the home straight involving Glamazon ridden by S. Foley, placed fifth, and Balance Of Trade, ridden by J. Pietropaolo, placed third, where it appeared J. Pietroaolo became unbalanced, lost a rein and drifted across Glamazon. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the matter, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.

S. Foley, rider of Glamazon, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was tightened up late on.

J. Pietropaolo, rider of Balance Of Trade, trained by Michael Mulvany, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran around in the last furlong and a half.
