Gordon Elliott was delighted with the run of gallant grey Coko Beach to finish runner-up in the Becher Chase at Aintree yesterday.

The eight-year-old chased home Chambard in attritional conditions in the extended three-mile-one contest, over the national fences, under Danny Gilligan.

It was his third outing of the season, following on from a valuable success in the Troytown Chase at Navan, and Elliott suggested he might have a short break now before returning in the New Year.

“He ran a great race under top-weight. He ran some race and Danny gave him a great ride, sure he's a great horse,” said the Cullentra handler.

“He would have had a hard race there and with his rating he's hard to place.

“We might look at some of those conditions races back over in England or he might even head the cross-country route.”
