It’s Derby day at Epsom on Saturday and there are a host of competitive handicaps to support the feature.

We provide a selection in the five handicaps on the undercard for one of British racing’s most famous days.

  • 14:10 Epsom - 3YO “Dash” Handicap (5f)

The draw has been kind to the rapid RUBY'S PROFIT in the 3YO “Dash” and she may be up to making all from stall 18, closest to the often favoured stands’ side rail. The daughter of Profitable has enjoyed a superb 2025, climbing 20lb in the weights after winning two handicaps impressively and going close in another at Chester behind a well-backed winner with a better draw. She recorded an outstanding Topspeed figure on her latest outing at Goodwood, having the victory essentially sewn up at the furlong marker, and this test looks ideal.

    2.105f. 16 Declared.
    Betfred 3yo 'Dash' Handicap (Class 3 ) of £75,000.00 3-y-o

14:45 Epsom - Aston Martin “Dash” Handicap (5f)

An easing of the ground at Epsom can play into the hands of VINTAGE CLARETS, who appeals in the “Dash”. Stall two may be lower than ideal, but plenty of recent winners have had similar draws and Vintage Clarets, who is always held up in his races, is capable of picking up the pieces if the leaders go too hard. That is often the case over racing’s fastest five furlongs and Vintage Clarets has appeared to be coming to hand on his past two starts despite conditions being quicker than he wants. Warren Fentiman is a positive jockey booking with a 5lb claim.

    2.455f. 19 Declared.
Aston Martin 'Dash' Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2 ) of £100,000.00 3-y-o plus

16:15 Epsom - Encore Lifestyle Northern Dancer Handicap (1m4f)

Fentiman also rides the interesting VICE PRESIDENT in the 1m4f handicap. This is only his second ride for Richard Hughes and Vice President hasn’t been seen to best effect on his two starts for this yard. He was held up in a slowly run 2m race at Newbury on his stable debut, before being given a little too much to do down in trip at Lingfield, perhaps not appreciating the fast ground. The son of Galileo was a useful performer for Aidan O’Brien last season and I wonder if a more aggressive ride may be in the pipeline from stall one. That was the way he was ridden last campaign and he has dropped to a good mark.

    4.151m. 4f. 6yds. 14 Declared.
Encore Lifestyle Northern Dancer Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2 ) of £75,000.00 4-y-o plus

17:00 Epsom - Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Lester Piggott Handicap (1m2f)

HORNSEA BAY was the subject of significant market support on his handicap debut over a mile at Newmarket last time and deserves another chance in the 1m2f handicap after failing to cut much ice. The son of New Bay raced away from where the action unfolded there and is bred to be suited by this step up in distance and slower ground. He may also derive some benefit from a gelding operation and, from a nice draw in stall two, could be up to dictating matters under Danny Tudhope.

    5.001m. 2f. 17yds. 9 Declared.
Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Lester Piggott Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2 ) of £75,000.00 3-y-o

17:40 Epsom - JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap (6f)

Get It and STRIKE RED bring a touch of class to the 6f handicap, with preference for the latter on this surface. Strike Red’s defeat of Room Service in a soft-ground York handicap in October reads well and there has been sufficient promise on his last two outings on the turf at Leicester and on the all-weather at Newcastle. He is 3-5 on soft going and has shown up well in the previous two runnings of this for Richard Fahey, who nailed a 28-1 winner on Oaks day.

    5.406f. 3yds. 11 Declared.
JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap (Class 2 ) of £75,000.00 4-y-o plus
