Epsom Tips: Delacroix features in 280-1 accumulator There are few bigger days on the Flat racing calendar than Derby Day and the fourth Classic of the season is well supported by a competitive undercard. We’ve picked out four runners at Epsom on Saturday that should have massive chances and combined them into an accumulator. Officially the highest rated runner in the field, he was runner-up in the Queen Anne last year and definitely performs best when racing over a mile. The son of Massaat was only beaten by half-a-length when second in a Listed contest at Ascot on seasonal debut and a repeat of that performance would surely give him every chance. He travelled all over the winner that day and may well improve for the run. 2.10 Epsom - 5f Betfred 3YO 'Dash' Handicap (Class 3) (3yo) - Ruby’s Profit This is a fiercely competitive handicap over the minimum trip and there are several candidates that could be of interest. Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole run the progressive handicapper RUBY’S PROFIT and she gets the nod. Her record over 5f is very respectable and she won impressively on debut at Kempton in May 2024. Connections then gave her some very difficult tasks, including the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, but she wasn’t quite up to competing at that level. Handicaps over 5f have been the making of her this term, however, and she bolted up at Wolverhampton in April and returned to winning ways at Goodwood last month. A 6lb rise is probably fair for this progressive filly and she might still be ahead of the handicapper. 3.30 Epsom - 1m4f Betfred Derby (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo) - Delacroix DELACROIX has done very little wrong in his career so far and he showed a significant amount of promise at two. The son of Dubawi was only just denied in the Beresford Stakes and went one better in a Group 3 over a mile at Newmarket after that. A nose separated him and Hotazhell in the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster after that and he only just failed to get back up on the line. Middle-distances obviously beckoned this season and he was an impressive winner of the Ballysax Stakes and the Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial Stakes over 1m2f. O’Brien’s colt has shown a good turn of foot as well as the ability to see 1m2f out well and it’s very likely that the step up to 1m4f won’t be a problem. Ryan Moore has picked him over The Lion In Winter and it’s very easy to see why. 5.40 Epsom - 6f RA Tokyo Trophy Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-105) - Circe Richard Hannon’s CIRCE has improved with every run this season and most of her best form has come over 6f. She returned to winning ways with Ryan Moore on board at Newmarket last month and kept on well to score by a neck. It appears that the four-year-old keeps a bit for herself as she followed up by another narrow margin at Windsor last time out. A 4lb rise makes life harder now but there’s a good chance that she can go in again before the handicapper catches up.
