Eric Tyner Passes Away Legendary Pony Racing figure Eric Tyner has died at the age of 94. He passed away peacefully on Monday. Eric, the father of current trainer Robert Tyner, was deeply involved in the southern Pony Racing circuit for more than half-a-century and is renowned for helping in early careers of a long list of successful jockeys. Jamie Spencer, Norman Williamson, Aidan Coleman and Wayne Lordan are just four of the well-known riders who cut their teeth on Tyner trained horses and ponies. Robert Tyner said: “He was in his 95th year and he died very peacefully. I was champion on the pony circuit when I was riding for him as a kid and he instilled a love of horses in all of us.” Tyner will lie in repose at Gabriel and O'Donovan's Funeral Home, Kinsale on Tuesday from 5.30pm, followed by Removal at 7.30pm to Christ Church, Innishannon. His funeral mass will be on Wednesday at 2.30pm. May he rest in peace.
