Jumps action is getting into top gear in Ireland this weekend with two eight-race cards on Sunday.

The action comes from Wexford and Galway and there are plenty of nice prospects entered at the declaration stage.

We have picked out two horses to follow in the two mile William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series Maiden Hurdle at Wexford (1.40) on Sunday including a well-bred prospect having just his second career outing.

Selection: The Store Boy

Next Best: Parnell Street

De Bromhead form to continue back on home soil

Henry De Bromhead has been absolutely flying in recent weeks, running at a strike-rate of just under 30 per-cent and he has a fascinating runner in the first of the two maiden hurdles on the card at Wexford on Sunday.

The Store Boy is the horse in question. This €68,000 store purchase is a half-brother to I Am The Moon, who is a winner in Britain and his dam, Midnight Tour, was a top mare, a Listed winner who hit the crossbar in a Cheltenham Festival Grade 1 so there’s plenty to recommend this five-year-old on pedigree.

His sole racecourse start came at Tramore at the start of the season when he finished third to a top prospect for JP McManus (Kainsbourg) back in May with another subsequent winner (Eye Of A Tiger), back in second.

Kainsbourg won a novice at the Listowel Festival before finishing runner-up in the Persian War at Chepstow last time, a Grade 2 novice contest, and the runner-up from Tramore has had the form of his subsequent maiden hurdle success boosted too.

The form looks rock solid for a maiden hurdle run at that particular venue and the front three pulled miles clear from the remainder of the field in that contest.

The Store Boy would have finished closer to the front two without a slow jump at the last which cost him plenty of momentum and the yard’s newcomers often come on plenty for the experience so we can expect improvement from that run here.

He arrives on the back of a break but de Bromhead’s representatives have been going well first time up this season and he should be a tough nut to crack.

Another interesting horse in the field is Parnell Street who might be a bit of each-way value in the race.

Unlike a few of these, he’s going to be hard-fit after four runs in bumpers this year and he’s already had his head in front in that sphere, winning a Killarney bumper in August before a creditable placed effort at Listowel last month.

He’s a half-brother to Twinjets who has been fairly prolific in his career to date with six wins from 15 starts under Rules for Paul Nicholls and this son of Elusive Pimpernel should continue to progress now tackling obstacles.

The yard form is a slight concern but he’ll be better suited to this ground than most of his rivals and looks capable of hitting the frame.
