Gleneagles on course for Ascot Dual 2000 Guineas winner Gleneagles is set to have his next run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on British Champions Day. Aidan O'Brien's miler has not been seen since landing the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, with ground conditions scuppering plans to run in the Sussex Stakes and likewise eagerly-awaited clashes with Golden Horn over 10 furlongs in the Juddmonte International and Irish Champion Stakes. Speaking at Gowran Park on Sunday, O'Brien said: "He's probably going to be trained for the mile race at Ascot (October 17). At the moment that's what we are thinking." On missing his intended engagements over the last couple of months, O'Brien added: "It's not ideal, b ut what can we do. That's just the way it is." Should Gleneagles take his chance in the QEII, it would set up a likely clash with Freddy Head's stable star Solow, winner of his last eight starts, including the Sussex Stakes. RaceBets quote Gleneagles as the 6-1 second-favourite for the Ascot showpiece, with Solow the 5-6 market leader.
