Donnacha O'Brien has a nice bunch of three-year-old fillies this season and Glyfada (6/4 favourite) gave him another winner in that category in the Race & Stay Fillies' Maiden at Naas.

Runner-up on debut at the Curragh, the daughter of Camelot slotted into second place before halfway in the mile and a-quarter contest and hit the front under two furlongs out.

Having looked set to score decisively at that stage, she then idled in front and ultimately had only a half-a-length to spare over the staying-on Arietty.

In the colours of Skara Glen Stables, jockey Chris Hayes reported "She improved nicely from her last run, she was quite green the last day.

“That rode like quite a strong race, I wasn’t expecting that kind of tempo. We went along good and even.

“I nursed her there and thought I was going to win easy. I probably dropped the revs a little bit too much on her and she had to pick up a second time.

“I was impressed with her and I think she’ll improve again.

“I think she’ll go out further again in trip. She’s just a nice improving filly.”

It was a quick double for Hayes after his win on Bobby McGee in the previous race.
