Gowran Racing Tips - 21st May There’s just one fixture to look forward to in Ireland on Wednesday and Gowran hosts a competitive-looking Flat meeting. We have a good mix of maiden and handicap action, whilst the feature race of the day is the €17,000 @gowranpark1 On Twitter Fillies Race. The action gets underway with a claimer at 17:10 and concludes with a staying handicap at 20:20. We’ve had a close look at the card and picked out three strong fancies to follow, including a Dermot Weld-trained runner in the feature event. With that in mind, Paddy Twomey’s runner Inventress could be the one to side with. The daughter of Mastercraftsman made her debut in a Cork maiden over an extended 1m2f a couple of weeks ago and produced a decent performance to finish second. Whilst she had no chance with the winner that day, she stuck to her task well and was well clear of the third. One would imagine she’s entitled to improve for the run and perhaps the drop in trip will help her cause too. Twomey has been in excellent form recently, with five winners from his 13 runners in the last fortnight, and it would be no surprise if Inventress adds to the tally. 18:20 Gowran Park - Pierre Royal Gowran’s second maiden of the day, a field of eight has been declared and there are two likely candidates amongst them. It’s Dermot Weld’s Pierre Royal that gets the nod, however, and it’s easy to make a case for the once-raced son of Kingman. His dam won two Listed races over this trip and Kingman was a lightning-fast miler too. This should be the right trip with that in mind and there was plenty to like about his second over course and distance earlier this month. He bumped into a very impressive Aidan O’Brien-trained winner that day and whilst he never looked threatening, the three-year-old finished a similar distance in front of the third. Improvement could well be on the cards and this looks like a good opportunity. 19:20 Gowran - Deressa Dermot Weld could be in for a good evening and he runs two in the main event. The Chris Hayes-ridden Deressa is the most interesting and could well be the one to side with. It took a while for the penny to drop last season but she finished a respectable fourth here on her final start. Weld’s filly managed to get off the mark in a course and distance maiden last month and the step-up in trip was a big help. She may well need to take a step forward to win here, but both track and trip suit and appears to be improving as a three-year-old. Joseph O’Brien’s Lemsairbat is the highest rated runner and the French import is likely to improve on her last time out third, which was her first run for the yard. Deressa gets the nod, however, and it’s highly likely that the best is yet to come.
