Hernando to miss Breeders' Cup

Gitano Hernando will not run in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Churchill Downs on Saturday week.

Connections of the four-year-old colt, fourth in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket on his last start, have decided not to fork out the US$270,000 supplementary fee.

The Marco Botti-trained son of Hernando will therefore swerve a showdown with Workforce, the Arc and Derby hero.

He is instead a possible runner in the 2011 Dubai World Cup, in which he finished sixth at Meydan in March.

Botti told the Independent: "He's not nominated to the Breeders' Cup, and it would cost a lot of money to supplement him.

"He is nominated to the Japan Cup and Hong Kong, but my feeling is that he will go straight to Dubai.

"He might well go out earlier this time and have a prep race first."
