Denis Hogan saddled 11/8 favourite Fleetfootsoldier in the first division of the mile handicap at Dundalk but it was his other runner, Hell Left Loose who prevailed at odds of 28/1.

Nicola Burns tracked the leaders on the nine-year-old before launching her challenge on the stand’s side passing the two pole.

Hell Left Loose bagged a narrow lead over a furlong from home and stuck on gamely in the closing stages to hold the finish of Hale Bopp by a short-head at the line.

Fleetfootsoldier met traffic in running in the straight and could only finish

Burns said: "Denis said to be handy enough and he jumped smart. I had a nice lead into the straight - he nearly got caught, but he stays every bit of the mile.

"Just as I passed the line, I saw his (Hale Bopp) head coming but I thought I was up.

"The plan was that if there wasn't much pace we would go on and make it, but I was kind of happy to take the lead in the straight.

"Hopefully, there's many more in the winter (for him)."
