Jaega aims to take a step up the ladder Dermot Weld will be hoping he can make big-race plans for Jaega after her run in the Plusvital Irish EBF Blue Wind Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. The Fastnet Rock filly was a hugely impressive winner of her only start to date at Leopardstown. That form received a big boost when the third, Aidan O’Brien’s Magic Wand, came out and won the Cheshire Oaks earlier this week. Jaega is in the Irish Oaks and should she come through this test it looks a likely target. O’Brien runs Bye Bye Baby and Easter Lily, eighth and ninth in the Blue Wind Stakes when last in action and Clear Skies. Jessica Harrington’s I’m So Fancy and Jim Bolger’s Panstarr complete the field. David O’Meara’s Fashion Queen and James Tate’s Kyllang Rock represent British interests in the Sole Power Sprint Stakes. Kyllang Rock started this season with a win in a conditions race at Musselburgh. “Kyllang Rock is in great form. He had probably a personal best when he won at Musselburgh on heavy ground early in the year,” said Tate. “It looks like it’s going to be similar ground at the Curragh on Saturday, so hopefully he’s got a very good chance.” Ardhoomey, Primo Uomo and Texas Rock are among a nine-runner field. In the Plusvital Speed Gene Handicap Johnny Murtagh will be hoping Urban Beat can back up an impressive win at Navan in April. The consistent Fiesole reappears in the Plusvital Energene-Q10 Handicap. Eoin Doyle’s representative is probably better known as a hurdler but has won three of his eight starts on the Flat on turf and still might be a little unexposed, despite being six. In the closing Plusvital Racing Syrup (C&G) Maiden Joseph O’Brien’s Arthurian Flame catches the eye. He was second on his debut at Cork but can be expected to take a big step forward.
