Lee targets big end to season with Al Qareem in St Simon Stakes Al Qareem has given Clifford Lee plenty of joy over the years and having already played a monumental part in the jockey’s season, could help him finish on a high in the rearranged St Simon Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. Karl Burke’s stalwart has won 13 of his 38 career starts with his most recent coming at Musselburgh earlier this year, a race which provided Lee with an emotional comeback winner following the quadbike accident that left him in intensive care. The seven-year-old has been off since June, but now heads to the Rowley Mile for the Group Three event. Lee said: “He’s served me very well throughout the years and got me my first winner back at Musselburgh after my accident earlier in the year. “He’s a good old boy Al Qareem. We all know he’s a forward-going horse and he might have been off for a little while, but I’m really looking forward to getting back on him. “He’ll enjoy it if there’s any cut underfoot.” Golden Souk Steps Up in Horris Hill Stakes Newmarket will also stage the rearranged Horris Hill Stakes on Saturday, where Lee and Burke again have high hopes in the form of exciting Redcar debut winner Golden Souk. Lee added: “He ran really well on debut and has been working really well at home. “We’ve always thought he was nice and to do what he did at Redcar was good to see. He deserves his chance up in class now. “It’s quite hard for good horses at this time of the year with less races to aim at but it will be worth a try.”
