Review leopardstown 19th Apr

< Fame And Glory stamped his class on the PW McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown to take high rank among Ballydoyle's possible Derby contenders.

The unbeaten son of Montjeu, conceding weight to all his rivals in the Group Three contest, delivered his challenge in the straight under Johnny Murtagh after travelling sweetly in fifth place for much of the trip.

The 4-1 chance cut down Fergus McIver with a furlong to go to score by a length and was untroubled by the late charge of favourite Mourayan who finished a further head away in third.

Aidan O'Brien's horses are beginning to click into gear and Stately Home (9-2) made it a double for the yard with an encouraging debut in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

Always prominent under Murtagh, the three-year-old dismissed Big Game Hunter in the straight and easily held Ballydoyle stablemate Yankee Doodle by two and a half lengths.

The progressive Three Rocks finally found one too good after three victories already this season, giving best to Kargali in the Heritage Stakes.

As usual the favourite was slowly away and settled last in the Listed contest as Tian Shan and Poet led the way to the eventual winner.

Mick Kinane sent Kargali (5-2) to the front approaching the final furlong and John Oxx's grey was not hard pressed to hold Three Rocks' late challenge by a length and a quarter.

The in-form Jim Bolger put another one on the scoreboard when debutant Gold Bubbles ran out an impressive winner of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

The juvenile was slowly away and ran green early on, but Kevin Manning had her settled on the shoulder of favourite Air Chief Marshal by the time they turned into the straight.

The 13-2 shot got the better of a brief duel and cleared away nicely in the final furlong to win by two and a half lengths.

Ben Curtis drove Maximo (12-1) ahead to win the Oakfield Handicap by three-quarters of a length, while Deputy Consort (13-2) surged clear to take the Pinewood Handicap by a length and a quarter under Martin Harley.
