Successful in the opening race of Derby weekend, Ger Lyons and Colin Keane quickly doubled up as the Juddmonte owned Quadruple won the JJ Mahon & Sons Handicap at the Curragh.

Wearing first-time cheekpieces, the four-year-old was quickly into stride, forcing the pace over the opening two furlongs. Genesis came through under Rory Cleary to take over in front before halfway, Pushed along to assert over two out, the latter looked set to score for trainer Alan McIntyre.

However, Quadruple found plenty for pressure from over a furlong out, regaining the advantage 200 yards from home, before going clear to win by two-and-three-quarter lengths at odds of 12/1.

“Timing is everything, she’s in the sales at Newmarket (Wednesday 9th July) so Rory and Barry (Mahon) will discuss that,” said Lyons.

“We always thought she was a black-type filly. She was doing a job in Navan the last day and it didn’t work out so we can draw a line through that.

“Last year she was real tough and genuine but we didn’t get the black-type and then we just found ourselves wanting lately.

“That’s more like it now and we’ve a decision to make in the next few days.

“It’s all about the drop in class and being in your own grade, that’s what racing is about.”
