Menorah now with Hobbs Readers of the Philip Hobbs stable tour in yesterday's Racing Post will have no doubt noted the name of Menorah as part of his 112 horse string, this King's Theatre gelding having created such an impression on his only appearance in a Naas bumper back in early August. The starting point of a great run of success in this sphere for Tom Mullins, which later featured Some Slam, Tavern Times and Dr Whizz, Menorah was well-touted on the Bank Holiday Monday and he didn't disappoint, sprinting away from over a furlong out, under Patrick Mullins, to account for Gentle Paddy by an easy ten lengths. Mullins described Eugene McDermott's four-year-old as "a special horse" in the aftermath of the win and his new trainer, Philip Hobbs similarly spoke in glowing terms of his recent acquisition. He is now in the ownership of Diana & Grahame Whateley. Unfortunately for them, their very good prospect, According To Dick, won't have the chance to fulfill his true potential, as he broke a hind leg at home at the end of last season. According To Dick scored at Loughbrickland back in April 2008 for Trevor Horgan and owner Dick Frisby. The good-looking son of Accordion was sold to Aiden Murphy the following Wednesday at Brightwells' Cheltenham Sale for £205,000. He then went on to win three of his five starts for Hobbs culminating in a close up third-placing in the Grade 1 Citroen Sefton Novices' Hurdle at the Aintree Festival.
