Name fourth as Byword takes Prix Dollar

Famous Name could only manage fourth as Byword claimed the Qatar Prix Dollar at Longchamp.

Dermot Weld's charge couldn't quicken in the closing stages as the other Khalid Abdullah runner edged a narrow verdict from Cirrus Des Aigles in the Group Two.

German challenger Durban Thunder took the field along at a steady gallop in the ten furlong contest but the principals were always well placed in fourth and fifth whilst Ahmed Ajtebi held Godolphin's French Navy up in last.

Durban Thunder was still in front as he took the field into the straight but Franck Blondel soon loomed up large on his outside aboard Cirrus Des Aigles.

However, Byword - who was in receipt of 4lbs - was tracking his every move and it was Andre Fabre's five year old who ran on the strongest to score a narrow success under Maxime Guyon.

Shimraan finished third, clear of the field, whilst French Navy failed to land a blow having briefly threatened to move into a challenging position in the straight.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for winning owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "Andre Fabre has given him plenty of time since he won at Chantilly and he felt that he would really like this ground.

"It's good to see him back and I should think Hong Kong will be an option."
