Newbury not to blame says Henderson

Nicky Henderson says Newbury isn't to blame for Saturday's tragic events when two horses died in the paddock prior to the opening race.

Fenix Two and Marching Song were about to be mounted by their jockeys on the grass on the far side of the parade ring prior to the first race when they fell to the ground and died, while Henderson's Kid Cassidy and The Merry Giant were also affected.

Speculation from the connections of the stricken horses was that they may have suffered from some form of electric shock.

A full investigation is currently under way but Henderson doesn't feel the racecourse is at fault.

He told Sky Sports News: "In my opinion you can't apportion any blame to the racecourse.

"I do know that that wire was believed and deemed to be default in 1992 when they rebuilt the new stands.

"So they have no record of it there because it was actually deemed to have been cut off. How on earth were they to know it was there or live - it was impossible to tell.

"One has to accept it was a one-off complete freak accident."
