O'Brien leads Newmarket crusade Crusade, which has numerours Group 1 entries for trainer Aidan O'Brien, is among five Irish hopes at Newmarket today, where he contests the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes. The Ballydoyle team claimed this race with Aussie Rules back in 2005 and it should be noted that O'Brien has not had a runner since. Crusade finishing down the field in a maiden at York last month but the son of Mr Geeeley has since triumphed in style at the Curragh. Among Crusade’s eight opponents today is the Jim Bolger trained Zip Top, which disappointed on his latest start in the Anglesey Stakes at The Curragh in July. Elsewhere on the card, which features a jackpot rollover of £550,853, Aidan O’Brien also runs Spin in the Listed Princess Royal Richard Hambro EBF Stakes while the curtain comes down on the racing careers of both Victor Ward’s admirable mares Fictional Account and End Of The Affair in the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl. Both mares are soon to be sent to the sales as broodmare prospects.
