O'Meara & Lynch land Canadian Group 1 David O'Meara will consider a Breeders' Cup Mile challenge for Mondialiste following his victory in the Ricoh Woodbine Mile in Canada on Sunday. Victory in the Grade One event at Woodbine guarantees a place in the October 31 event at Keeneland and O'Meara admits he will have to think hard about running following Mondialiste's victorious late flourish. The five-year-old stepped up on his Strensall Stakes success to come from the back of the field in the hands of Fergal Lynch, staying on strongly in the final furlong to beat Lea by half a length. "The game plan was always to take our time, come with a late challenge, and just hope they would come back on the soft ground, and that's exactly what happened," Lynch told www.bloodhorse.com. "He'd plenty left but it was the way the race developed today, really, that made him shine through - and he's got an electric turn of foot." Mondialiste will now return to O'Meara's Nawton yard while connections weigh up the Breeders' Cup option. O'Meara said: "We'll have to consider it now. Today was the big race that we had in mind, stepping up to group One level. "The Breeders' Cup will be under consideration, but we'll just take the horse home and see how he is. "We thought we'd come here with the long straight and the big track. I'm not quite sure whether Keeneland would suit him as well."
