Prendergast still has faith in Dunboyne

Kevin Prendergast has not lost any faith in Dunboyne Express despite the colt's slightly disappointing performance in the Racing Post Trophy.

The two-year-old son of Shamardal could only finish fifth behind fellow countryman Casamento in the last Group One of the season at Doncaster on Saturday.

Things did not go right for Dunboyne Express, who was having his first race for three months.

"He was a little bit distressed after the race. It was a long time since he ran," said the County Kildare trainer.

"We were a bit disappointed on the day, but we live to fight another day. He got a little bump on leaving the gate and a little bit of interference.

"He ran a bit free. They went very slow the first half of the race then they quickened up and left him flat-footed.

"I suppose in hindsight for the length of time he was off he ran not too bad a race.

"That's his last run for this year and we're looking forward to next year with him.

"I'd say he'll get a mile and a quarter next year. I've not discussed plans with the owner yet. We're going to have a chat this week and see what the score is. We believe there's still lots more to come from him."
