Prohibit wins King's Stand

Prohibit kept the prize for the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in Britain, proving a career highlight for trainer Robert Cowell and jockey Jim Crowley.

Australian sprinter Star Witness finished with a late rattle to take second, half a length behind, with Hong Kong speedster Sweet Sanette another half-length back in third after making much of the running. Hungarian star Overdose was fourth.

A delighted Cowell subsequently said "I can't believe that's just happened - has it happened?"

"I'm overwhelmed. I've got sunglasses on, so you won't notice I'm crying. I've had a bit of flak for running him too much, but he thrives on his racing. He's a game horse and I'm chuffed to bits. It's the best day of my racing life - it's awesome.

"Over five furlongs he's obviously a very talented horse, but he doesn't get a yard further. We'll go for the Nunthorpe next."
