Well-bred Sutton Hoo 's career was resurrected at Dundalk today, as the Natalia Lupini-trained, O’Kelly-family owned colt scored on all-weather debut in the concluding Put The Fun Into Fundraising At Dundalk Maiden.

Stuck-in-the-mud on heavy ground when last seen at Listowel last September, Sutton Hoo was well-found as the 15/8 favourite for today’s return and under jockey Wayne Lordan, the son of Saxon Warrior battled gamely for a head win from Path To Power .

Sutton Hoo is from a family which produced Arc winner Carnegie, and afterwards Lupini said "As a two-year-old we thought that soft ground could have helped, but hindsight turned out it was probably a mistake running at Listowel. We have learned from these things.

"We liked him as a two-year-old, he was a little bit weak after the Listowel run and, obviously, we gave him his break. We were very happy with him throughout the winter and when he worked up here during the winter, he loved the surface.

"He has developed massively and has turned into a very big, strong horse now compared to his two-year-old physique."
