Rip Very Possible to go Straight to Epsom

Aidan O'Brien is tempted to take Rip Van Winkle, a fast-finishing fourth in the stanjames.com 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, straight to the Epsom Derby.

On Monday Johnny Murtagh raised concerns over whether the son of Galileo would stay a mile-and-a-half, saying: "He stayed on nicely and it was his first run - there is improvement there - and I don't think an extra two furlongs would harm.

"He has a great cruising speed, but I don't know if he'd stay a mile and a half. I'll leave it to Aidan."

However O'Brien is tempted by the Epsom Classic, telling the Racing Post: "Rip Van Winkle is a little bit sore on the foot he bruised early last week, which is understandable. Otherwise he seems fine.

"It's very possible, but not definite, that he will go straight to Epsom."
