Riskaway was a decisive winner of the extended two-and-a-half-mile maiden hurdle on Thurles' card for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy.

Although some 16 horses went to post, the front seven were clear of the remainder at five out. Arslan led throughout, but Riskaway closed on him before the penultimate flight. The five-year-old Gigginstown gelding took over upon touching down and asserted over Arslan by the last.

Once that was negotiated, the 5/6 favourite strode in by a more-than-healthy 11 lengths from Zeus Power (11/1) who got up for second from a weakening Arslan (2/1).

Kennedy said: "I was delighted with him as it was messy and was a cat-and-mouse sort of race. Some of us were outjumping others, but we didn't want to go on and he did it well in the end.

"He stumbled at the back of one hurdle, having jumped it perfectly, but other than that he was perfect. Going 2m4f suited, he could go further and hopefully he will keep progressing."
